A special edition Mustang named for the man who brought the car to market is going up for auction in April.
The 2009 1/2 Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Mustang was a collaboration between Lee Iacocca, coachbuilder Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters, and Galpin Ford. It’s a 2009 Ford Mustang with unique handbuilt bodywork, including a special grille and changes to the roofline. It also has sunken headlights and a lower, wider stance. It’s painted in a silver color chosen by Iacocca, and it was built to mark 45 years of Mustang. All of the cars were originally sold through LA-based Galpin Ford.
Iacocca joined Ford in 1946. In 1960, he was named VP and general manager of Ford. He was one of the driving forces that brought the first Ford Mustang to production in 1964.
The car up for auction is #20 of just 45 built. It has the supercharger option, which means that the 4.6L V8 has been boosted to 400 hp, backed with a five-speed manual. Since it was sold, the car has been driven less than 500 miles.
This silver on black special Mustang goes on the block at Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach auction, which runs April 12-15.
