Ford Has Made the World’s Biggest Billboard
27 February 2018, 08:00

Fresh from victories at the world’s most legendary races, yet another year of enormous sales of the F-150, and more awards than you shake a stick at, Ford wanted to put another feather in its cap. So it made the world’s biggest billboard.

You might naturally assume that the world’s largest—well, anything was made in America, but not this time. To make its big billboard, Ford went to Spain.

On side of Madrid’s Edifico Espana, Ford plastered 56,672 square feet of EcoSport. Effectively a Fiesta on stilts, the EcoSport is Europe’s idea of an SUV (cute).

“Our Guinness World Records title for the Largest billboard demonstrates the creativity that drives our company,” said Elena Burguete, Ford Spain’s director of Marketing. “Ford’s message is ‘Go Further’, and that’s what we aimed to do with our campaign for the launch of the new EcoSport. It’s a great way to deliver the message ‘Life is out there, are you?’ to as many people as possible, right in the heart of Madrid.”

The billboard is as big as 20 tennis courts and weighs 4,409 lbs, which gives it the strange honor of weighing nearly twice as much as the car it advertises.

Once the campaign ends, Ford will donate the materials that went into this billboard to Apascovi Foundation, an employment center for people with disabilities.
