I installed an electric water pump back in 2008. The pump failed during a recent drive and engine went into a fail safe. I immediately pulled over into a parking lot and let it set for a few hours. The coolant only came out of the overflow and radiator seems fine. I was a little over one mile from home so I drove it directly there.
