Sometimes we see a modified car and we’re not really sure how we feel about it. This is not one of those times.
This is a passion project. Edsel enthusiast Rob Cerame built this car to celebrate 50 years of the much-maligned marque. Could this car be what the brand would have come to if it had survived for far longer than it did? We’re happy not to know.
The outside changes to the car are not extensive. The grille, bumper, and taillights are the biggest changes. But that’s to be authentic. Because Cerame only changed the parts that were changed between Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis. And let’s face it, that’s exactly what Ford would have done at the time.
So it has a 1958 Edsel grille, and yes, it’s a real Edsel grille.
Inside, it has a customized interior that further represents what Cerame thought Edsel might have turned into. That includes cloth door cards, seat inserts, emblems, and more. He might not be wrong about what would have happened to Edsel, though. Which means that the Edsel brand probably wouldn’t have survived the death of Mercury, either.
Underneath, this is 2008 Ford Crown Victoria. That means 210 hp 4.6L V8 and four-speed automatic.
If you’re interested in buying it–or seeing who could be interested in buying it–it’ll be at the R.M. Sotheby’s Auburn Fall Auction at the end of this month.
