You know that Ford GT? The one that John Cena sold, then got sued, then it was sold again, then there was a sealed settlement? Yeah, it’s been sold…again.
It’s traded hands about half a dozen times now, and been part of half a year of courtroom battles, but the 2017 Ford GT that was originally bought by pro wrestler, rapper, meme, and actor John Cena now has a new owner. One who paid dearly for it. The car sold last weekend at auction in Monterey for $1.435 million. About a million more than when it was new in 2017.
After Chico, CA, based dealer New Autos Inc. sold it last year, they thought it was gone. Then it came back. Jalopnik reports that the farmer (their words) who bought it had back problems and couldn’t drive it. Since this car (which has under 700 miles in two years) “should be driven” it went back to the dealer and back up for auction.
It’s not the only Ford GT to be sold on the open market, but it’s certainly been the most controversial. Now that Ford’s building more of them we expect that to remain the case.
Ford’s policy of taking applications for the car and only selling it to those deemed worthy was an interesting experiment. One that was supposed to have kept the car in the original hands for the first few years. But hey, maybe all this legal drama is getting Ford even more free publicity.
