KHM Motor Poland is a coachbuilder that’s set a goal of building modern versions of famous Polish cars. Though we’re not aware of any famous ones off hand. This new one, though, might manage to make the modern car company more famous than the cars it is emulating. Or at least more notorious.
The Warszawa M20 GT is a design that’s supposed to capture the Warszawa of the 1950s that was a 2.1L, 52 hp, four-seat taxi. The new one looks pretty much nothing like it. And under the hood? Pretty much nothing like it. The car is built starting with a Ford Mustang GT and adding some custom bodywork.
The problem isn’t that it’s based on a Ford. It’s that the company said that Ford was involved in the project, even using the blue oval in promotional material. Turns out that to the surprise of nobody, that wasn’t quite true.
Polish outlet Autogaleria cites a Ford of Poland statement that reads “in connection with the information appearing in the media on the alleged cooperation between KHM Motor Poland and Ford of Europe in the implementation of the Warsaw M20 GT project, we would like to inform you that no contract has been signed regarding any Ford cooperation with the said company. The use of the Ford logotype on the KHM Motor Poland website with information on such cooperation is groundless and unlawful.”
KHM has since removed Ford logos from the site, along with any hints of co-operation. But they are still saying that the car is based on the 2016 Mustang. With AMG GT taillights, though the company isn’t taking credit for a partnership with that brand either.
While this news might boost KHM in the headlines, Ford’s statement makes it more unlikely that the company will ever be able to produce the car for paying customers.
