The McLaren 720S offers up frankly ridiculous levels of performance, but it just became even quicker with the debut of the new 720S Track Pack.
The 720S Track Pack is aimed at buyers who frequent track days. As such, it gets race-inspired equipment including carbon exterior trim, super lightweight 10-spoke forged alloy wheels, a carbon fiber active rear spoiler and a lightweight sports exhaust system. Inside, the Track Pack adds carbon fiber performance seats from the hardcore McLaren Senna, carbon gearshift paddles, six-point harnesses and a rear harness bar. All told, the carbon componentry saves about 24 kg of weight over the regular 720S, or 52 lbs.
Also included is a McLaren Track Telemetry (MTT) system. This system uses three video cameras and data-logging software to record video footage and information from the user’s track session. The onboard footage and telemetry can then be viewed on the in-car screen, or uploaded to a computer using an SD card. The MTT is useful for improving your driving, McLaren says, allowing you to go back and see where you missed apexes or braking points, for example.
McLaren recently took a 720S Track Pack out to the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic, where it hit the track alongside the new-for-2019 720S GT3 race car. Development of the 720S GT3 is ongoing and will be complete for the next racing season.
The McLaren 720S Track Pack will cost roughly $292,620 when it goes on sale in 2019, or £224,700. For now, you can check it out alongside the new 720S GT3 in the rather epic gallery above.
