When you think about it, humans are kind of weird for liking fireworks. Considered objectively, fireworks—massive explosions tearing through the heavens, rending them apart with flashes of apocalyptic light—are terrifying. Really, your dog’s the sane one for being afraid.

Ford’s here with the solution: a dog house with active noise canceling technology from its cars.

The A-frame dog house not only looks pretty, it also helps shield your dog’s sensitive ears from the shock of your New Years celebrations.

“Many animals find fireworks scary – and compared to people, dogs can hear things that are four times further away, and across a much wider range of frequencies,” says Graeme Hall, a prominent UK dog trainer. “Preparing in advance of firework displays is the key – and part of that is to identify a place where your pets feel safe and happy.”

Unfortunately, the dog house was created by Ford Europe. Even more unfortunately, it’s just a prototype, so don’t expect to pick one up on your next trip to the dealership.

Instead, it’s a way for Ford to show off just how quiet its Edge is, but this genuinely seems like a good idea to us because it could help dogs deal with thunderstorms, too.

And next time you’re in the dog house with your significant other, at least you’ll have quiet place to contemplate your insensitivity.
