We know what the Shelby GT500 looks like. We know roughly how much power it makes. And now we finally know what it sounds like thanks to this video from Road&Track.
Judging by the license plates, the video appears to have been taken in the concert hall we know as New York City and shows the aural difference between the exhaust’s normal mode and track mode.
And quite the difference it makes. The audio in the video isn’t recording studio quality, but the noise produced in track mode can be best described as frustrated thunder. In normal mode, meanwhile, it’s not exactly quiet, but it is less angry.
In case you needed a refresher, the GT500 makes more than 700 hp from its 5.2-liter V8. According to Ford, that should give it a 0-60 time in the mid 3s and a quarter mile time in the 10s.
It’s only available with a dual-clutch auto for now, but a stick might become go on sale if demand is high enough. The dual-clutch should come out this fall.
