In what can only be described as the most American thing to happen since that mother bald eagle fed her chicks that apple pie that one time, Busch Beer is making cans out of a NASCAR.
That’s the whole story. But come on, how much more do you need?
As the video above shows, they took sheet metal from Kevin Harvick’s number 4 Ford Fusion and carbon fiber from the front of the car and transformed them into the top and bottom halves of a beer can.
Surprisingly, the carbon fiber was the easier of the two materials to work with. Although they had to find one of the few carbon fiber recyclers in America, the company had the tech to take the resin out of the fiber, allowing it to be reshaped into the bottom half of a can.
The top, metal half, meanwhile, was much harder to work with. Finding a way to reshape the metal without also tearing the vinyl wrap proved to be difficult. A floral shape, though, proved to be the ticket.
The two side look like they’re riveted together, which is a little odd. That along with the enormous expense mean that this process might not be the best way to make beer cans, but it might the coolest.
And that’s reflected in the fact that Busch only has 40 of these cans to give away to fans. You can find out how to win by tuning into the Daytona 500 on February 17 (which is this weekend).
