Ford Performance will finally debut the Mustang GT4 in Europe this weekend.
The Multimatic-built car will be entered in the GT4 European Series Southern Cup season finale taking place at the Circuit Paul Ricard, near Marseille, France.
“The best way to show customers what a car can do is to bring it to the racetrack,” said Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance. “That’s our goal at Paul Ricard. We’ve already had success with the Ford Mustang GT4 in the U.S.; now it’s time to show potential customers what it can do at a respected European track like Paul Ricard.”
The track-only Mustang GT4 shares a 5.2-liter V8 with the Shelby GT350 but swaps the street car’s flat-plane crank and three-pedal arrangement for a conventional cross-plane one and six-speed flappy paddles. Multimatic also added its special brand of shocks, control arms and stabilizer bars. Aero changes include a front splitter and that picnic table rear wing.
The Mustang GT4 will be a special exhibition entrant in the FFSA GT season finale with 2016 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge champion Scott Maxwell at the helm. The car took three victories in North America during 2017 against competition like the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, McLaren 570 GT4, and the also new Camaro GT4.R.
“I’ve never raced at Paul Ricard, but I’m very excited to see what this car can do there against some good competition,” Maxwell said. “It’s a great place to showcase the car to potential customers for Europe and, just as importantly, it’s a great time to be involved with sports car racing at Ford. First, we had the BOSS 302R, then the Shelby GT350R-C, and now the Mustang GT4. It’s great to see Ford increase the Mustang’s footprint around the world, not just in the marketplace, but on the race tracks as well.”
