Watch: A Super Mustang (Hoonicorn) Shot in Super 8
01 May 2019, 08:00

When Gymkhana 7: Wild in the Streets was released in 2014, it was all shot in beautiful HD. But in the background, one videographer was quietly filming over shoulders in retro Super 8.

Although the footage didn’t end up in the final cut of Gymkhana 7: Wild in the Streets, it is finally being released on Ken Block’s YouTube channel. Shot by Pierre Wikberg, the video covers his history from snowboarding to rallying with Block.

The camera works especially well with the Mustang. That’s not just because the classic car pops on classic film stock, but also because Block himself looks like an old school racer in his three-quarter helmet and bandana combo.

Also included is some behind the scenes footage that you didn’t see in the edited film, either. You get to see Block try the same corner a number of times and some of the equipment that made Gymkhana 7: Wild in the Streets possible.

The actual Super 8 footage doesn’t start until about the 20 minute mark, but if you’re interested in Block’s background in snowboarding or his history with the photographer who shot this footage, the video is worthwhile.
