The Ford Motor Company has applied for trademarks on the name EAVE as well as a pair of mirrored logos for the name.
Although the application can apply to anything as general as a “land vehicle,” Ford has also specified that it could apply to “computer software for the operation, control, maintenance, and management of vehicles,” among other things.
Along with the name the application suggests that the name will be applied to an autonomous vehicles. It doesn’t take much imagination, after all, to see how EAVE could apply to an electric, autonomous vehicle.
The application could be the latest part of Ford’s commitment to bring a level 4 autonomous vehicle, through a ride-hailing service, to America’s roads.
The trademark application comes shortly after Bloomberg reported Jim Hackett saying that Ford had “overestimated the arrival of autonomous vehicles.” The Ford CEO also added that the “application will be narrow, what we call geo-fenced, because the problem is so complex.”
