This special edition Mustang might leave you spinning. It’s a supercharged tribute from Down Under but if it’s got you stoked, it’ll set you back nearly 200,000 dollarydoos. Fair dinkum.

It’s from Australian Ford specialists Tickford. The Tickford Bathurst ’77 Special is a heritage edition Mustang GT that’s a throwback to the Ford Falcon XCs that finished first and second at the famous Bathurst 1000 back in 1977. If you’re not familiar with that particular running, it was an iconic finish to the event with Allan Moffat taking his record-tieing fourth win at Mount Panorama and teammate Colin Bond alongside in second. Bond stayed behind under team orders as F1 winner Jacky Ickx had cooked Moffat’s car’s brakes during his earlier stint behind the wheel.

Tickford built just 77 of them, and we understand they are highly desirable in Aus. The cars originally added $64,500 to the price of a standard GT.

The stock GT’s 5.0L V8 has been fitted with a Rousch supercharger to make 727 hp. There’s a new air filter, aluminum intercooler, and a host of upgrades including a 77 Special-specific exhaust system. The handling’s not been left alone either, with a Tickford-spec coilover suspension system and wheels, and Steeda bracing.

But the real special bit is the graphics pack. A modern look at the 1977 Falcon’s livery. With matching red and blue on the inside to help set it apart from standard.

The car for sale today is the very first one built. If you’re interested, this one’s selling for $170,000. Though with the conversion, that’s about $115,000 US greenbacks. Practically a steal.
