Ford is planning on giving buyers of the all-new Mustang Shelby GT500 the skills to manage the car’s massive performance though a Track Attack driving experience free to all owners.
The GT500 boasts 760 hp from its supercharged V8, along with launch control, a limited-slip rear diff, and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It all means exceptional performance, on paper at least. To use that performance, just about anyone who isn’t already a pro racing driver could use a bit of extra help. So Ford is making that available.
The GT500 Track Attack is part of the new Ford Performance Racing School, located at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Owners who make the pilgrimage to the school will get a range of in-class and on-track instruction to help make sure they can handle the car’s performance.
“With its supercar-level powertrain, the all-new Shelby GT500 takes Mustang to a performance level once reserved only for exotics,” said Dave Pericak, Ford director of enterprise product line management. “We’ve set a new standard among American performance cars with our most powerful street-legal V8 to date, plus the quickest-shifting transmission ever in a Mustang for all-out precision and speed. GT500 Track Attack is absolutely essential in helping owners understand how to get the most out of their cars. This promises to be an exciting experience – one that owners will never forget.”
The school will use GT500s provided for the students, though an optional second day of instruction will use Mustang GT models with Ford Performance suspension and brakes.
Ford will cover the driving school, though owners will need to cover their own travel. Ford is still looking at options to allow for guests as well.
