Excited about the next Mustang and need a new job? Well, today’s your lucky day, because a job posting from Ford may have just unintentionally revealed that the next Mustang will be unveiled in 2022 as a model year 2023 vehicle.
The job posting, discovered by a Mustang6G reader on LinkedIn, so I guess that site isn’t useless after all. Turns out Ford is hiring a Wind/Road Noise and Air Leakage Engineer to join its Flat Rock plant Vehicle team. The ad clearly states that the applicant will be responsible for the “on-site launch lead for the Wind/Road Noise and Air Leakage attributes when S650 launches in 2022 as a 2023MY.”
S650 is important here because the current Mustang’s chassis code is S550. While timeline here makes sense—the current Mustang launched in 2014 and eight years is a reasonable amount of time between model generations—the news would contradict reports suggesting that the S550 would be hanging around until 2026.
And while we’ll try to retain a healthy amount of skepticism until Ford makes an official announcement, this report is a promising sign that a new Mustang may soon come.
