Ford unveiled the Liquid Carbon special edition Ford GT at the Chicago Auto Show today and with it a raft of minor updates to improve performance. Along with a standard Akrapovic exhaust, the GT gets 660 horsepower for 2020.

It’s not just power, though, the tuning of the 3.5-liter V6 has been improved to provide a wider torque band and improved efficiency thanks to gallery-cooled pistons, higher energy ignition coils 50% better airflow. All of which means that the GT can preserve peak power under heavy load.

The Liquid Carbon edition, meanwhile, leaves the carbon fibre body completely uncolored. With nothing more than some clear coat to preserve the body and punctuate the weave of the fiber. Carbon wheels, as you might expect, are also standard.

“This next chapter in the Ford GT story allows us to fully demonstrate our mastery in both the art and science of carbon fiber craftsmanship and finishing,” said Angus Smith, General Manager of Multimatic Niche Vehicles, North America. “The results of this ongoing partnership between Multimatic and Ford Performance speak for themselves, as each visually stunning and unique Liquid Carbon GT is a manufacturing marvel, showcasing the characteristics and nuances inherent in carbon fiber composites.”

If bright colors are more your speed, there’s also an updated Gulf livery adds black pin striping the orange and blue to better distinguish the colors. The number on the historic livery has also been changed form 9 to 6, to recall the back-to-back winning chassis no.1075. Carbon wheels are also available instead of aluminum wheels, for the first time on a heritage edition.
