Mecum Auctions is offering a very rare Mustang at its Indianapolis sale in May. This SSP police car is just one of 32 and was used by Corporal Brad Popowich of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
That’s right! It’s a Mountie Mustang and it features a 5.0-liter V8 with a 5-speed manual transmission and a shotgun, which we have to imagine is sold separately. The car is service ready, with working lights, sirens, and radio. It also has a blue interior, which I’m surprisingly into.
It being an SSP Mustang also means that it has an additional oil cooler, silicone radiator hoses, reinforced floor pans, a full size spare, and trans-fluid cooler.
Although a total of 15,000 SSPs were produced, 32 were bought by the mounties, and just 4 of those made it to Saskatchewan like this one. Fun fact: while I was living in Saskatchewan in a previous life, I learned that ‘waners like to say that everything in the province is so damn far away that on a long enough timeline you either grow hooves or wheels. I guess the mounties got both.
Other fun fact: in Saskatchewan, a hoodie is called a “bunny hug.” That has nothing to do with this, it’s just a delightful fact that I’m determined to tell as many people as possible.
