I have a 2008 GT manual (August 2007) build. The car is new to me (last week) and I may have to get a new engine. It does run and drive, but the timing is off and there is another noise that may be rod knock. I'm trying to diagnose that. Any diagnosis suggestions would be appreciated.

Can I replace this engine with a 2008+ 4.6 engine? There was an electrical change (for sync 1 I believe) in December 2007. What additional parts do I need if I get a later engine? Any issues there?
