Ford has filed an application for a trademark on the term G.O.A.T. Modes. The title, presumably, refer to popular initialism for Greatest Of All Time.
The trademark application was discovered by Ford Authority, and covers “drive systems comprised of automatic controls for vehicle chassis and powertrain controllers.” Basically, it looks like it will be a drive mode like Sport+, Normal, etc in the Mustang.
Which vehicle(s) will receive the drive mode is, as of yet, unclear. Most vehicles now have drive modes, so really it could be used throughout Ford’s lineup.
Certain cars jump to mind first, though. The Mustang is, of course, one of America’s best-loved sports cars and could therefore be considered a G.O.A.T.
The F-150, meanwhile, has been America’s best selling truck for more than 40 years, and in 2021 could be celebrating its 45th year as the best-selling truck in America. It wouldn’t be hard, therefore, to make an argument that it’s the GOAT.
Finally, the new Mach-E is coming out soon and as an EV is good territory for new drive modes. Tesla proved that a little friendly boasting (“Ludicrous Mode”) excites EV owners and lets them show off a little. Maybe Ford is thinking of doing something similar.
Whatever G.O.A.T. mode is, we’ll keep you informed when we find out.
