You gotta love someone who can improvise. When this video started, it was supposed to be about an Escort doing a burnout on a trailer. But when two half-axles broke, that plan went out the window.
So instead sliding the car on the back of the trailer, Block decided to use the vehicle in front of it: a Ford F-450.
And why not? It’s rear-wheel drive and a torquey diesel engine. But there’s a reason you don’t often see F-450s drifting, and that’s because it’s quite tricky to do.
Block explains that the torque delivery on the engine, all down low, meant that although breaking traction wasn’t too hard, actually maintaining a slide required careful throttle inputs. And Block really looks like he’s trying, gritting his teeth the whole time.
