The Mach 1 will mark a considerable jump in horsepower and torque over the Bullitt Mustang that it replaces, according to a report from Ford Authority.
Citing unnamed sources familiar with the project, the outlet claims that engineers are shooting for 525 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque from the 5.0-liter Coyote engine. That’s a 45 hp bump over the Bullitt and it matches the GT350’s horsepower rating.
The Shelby makes its power via a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter Voodoo V8 which a flat-plane crank. Ford has promised, however, that the Mach 1 will be powered by a 5.0-liter engine. How it manages the power bump will be interesting to see.
“Mach 1 has a special place in Mustang history, and it’s time for this special edition to claim the top spot in our 5.0-liter V8 performance lineup and reward our most hardcore Mustang enthusiasts who demand that next level of power, precision and collectability,” Dave Pericak, Director of Ford Icons, said in May. “Like the original, the all-new Mustang Mach 1 will be true to its heritage, delivering great looks and as the most track-capable 5.0-liter Mustang ever.”
The Mach 1 will be a 2021 model, so expect more information on the car to trickle out steadily.
