So, I've had the mustang for a little over a year now..
When it comes to filling up gas, I usually only do 6-7 gals (max) at a time to save myself the embarrassment of overflowing..

Here's where my curiosity kicks in..
Even though I only pump 6-7 gallons, my fuel gauge will read FULL.
I once deprived it of fuel and ran it to the point where it completely shutdown, then filled up again. Same thing. Only 7 gals and gauge read FULL..

I suppose my only option is to keep letting the pump flow...
