Celebrating 50 years of cinema excellence, Ford just introduced the 2019 Mustang Bullitt in Detroit. 

Throwing back to the iconic San Francisco chase scene featuring Steve McQueen’s Highland Green 968 Mustang GT, the new version recreates the look with subtle chrome accents, new interior touches, and more power. 

Sports fans will be excited to learn the new Bullitt will offer in excess of 475 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, Ford says the 5.0-liter will propel the Bullitt to a top speed of 163 mph– and 8 mph increase over the base Mustang GT. The car will spit its spent fuel through an active performance exhaust system with new Black NitroPlate exhaust tips and a retuned sound profile to promote more V8 burble. It also gets an Open Air induction system, and borrows the GT350’s 87mm throttle bodies and powertrain control module calibration. 

All Bullitts will be equipped with a manual transmission, which now includes a new white cue ball shift knob as a subtle nod to the original. 

The Bullitt packages all Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package content into one kit. Other standard gear includes a heated leather steering wheel and a 12-inch all-digital LCD instrument cluster with a unique Bullitt welcome screen. 

“This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool,” said Darrell Behmer, Mustang chief designer. “As a designer, it’s my favorite Mustang – devoid of stripes, spoilers, and badges. It doesn’t need to scream about anything – it’s just cool.”

Shoppers will be offered a choice of exterior paint, either Shadow Black or the classic Dark Highland Green, other goodies include classic torque thrust 19-inch aluminum wheels, red painted Brembo brakes, and a unique black front grille.

Shoppers will be offered a choice of three option packages, including a suite of active safety features, MagneRide suspension, and Recaro bucket seats. 

Look for the Bullitt Mustang to begin arriving this summer.
