Hi I have a batter drain and I’ve found out it’s the field wire although I’m not sure if I have to replace my alternator or get a 1 wire conversion kit thanks if you help me

My sons car above blew out the magnetic pickup/controller in his MSD dizzy. What’s the secret to not dropping the oil pump rod when pulling the dizzy out (after I mark the position and rotor to the intake manifold). My 66 had a clip on the oil pump rod,
